I am just a Chimp Keeper is how Innocent Mulenga introduced himself to his master’s class at Oxford Brookes University in Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Surrounded by academics with postgraduate degrees from around the world, he was very aware of his humble background.

Today he is Zambia’s first primatologist and manager of the remote Chimfunshi Wildlife Trust, the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the world, with 124 chimps in total, 94 of which live “wild” in huge enclosures. Beautifully shot in the lush Zambian bush on the border with the Congo, this documentary gives us an incredible insight into the lives of the chimps and into Innocent Mulenga’s remarkable story.
