Northeren Cape Race
Airs: Sunday 7:30PM
Category: Reality
4 000 km, 36 contestants divided into 12 teams.
13 Episodes of 45 minutes each.
The main goal of this series was to showcase how different cultures, languages and communities can work together as teams.
The series is introducing the little-known Northern Cape to a huge prime-time television audience. With an exciting style that palatable interweaves entertainment with education and information, the series emphasizes this superficially arid - and seemingly almost desolate – province as a major South African destination for tourists, nature lovers, peace- and-quiet seekers, as well as for extreme sport fanatics, discoverers and adventurers.
But the area is also rich in culture, history and tradition. The series acknowledge this through its strong interaction with various local communities at culturally and historically important settlements such as Riemvasmaak, Pella, Eksteenfontein, Carnarvon, Victoria West, etc.
11 April
The final day of the competition. Early on the very tense surviving contestants travel the 70 odd kms to the very luxurious Mattanu Game Reserve, 15 kms outside Barkly West.
Arriving at this exclusive resort, they are immediately introduced to the first task of the day – aerial inoculation of giraffe! One member from each of the three teams is flown by helicopter to a herd of giraffe which is to be inoculated by dart rifle from the quite unsteady platform of the chopper.
The competitors quickly learn this is no easy task, and few darts find their targets!
